Durian-do in Penang any body?

Apparently tourists can fly to Penang just for a durian buffet. I'm not sure I would fly there just for durian but would this be of interest for a Flyertalk do?

Have you actually eaten durian? Or just smelled it? I get the apprehension to try it, but there is a reason people put up with the smell.

IMO, Queen Victoria's alleged quote about "custard in a latrine" was spot-on. Isolating the fruit's flavor/texture from the smell, it's OK. However, the "is there a sewage issue here?" smell is enough to put me off.

I hadn’t heard the quote before; that’s pretty funny! I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Southeast Asia dating back to childhood, so I think I’ve become somewhat “nose blind” to it. I totally get being put off by it, but it’s definitely worth trying at least once.

That doesn't count. But it is a good combo.

Durian is not so bad. Certainly an acquired taste though, pretty tough to get past the smell. Besides the durian + chocolate combo, I've also had them as candies and they're quite tasty.
