DPS International Transit
I recently had cause to complete an international-international transit at DPS. This was on the same ticket, with two different airlines (GA and CI).
Since I can't find much information online about the transit process and due to the fact that it was a little unusual, I thought I'd record it here and perhaps others will find this information useful.
At check-in, the GA agent assisting me told me that DPS is not a transit airport and that I'd have to pick up my bags in DPS and recheck them. Got only the one boarding pass for the first leg. This doesn't sound ideal since (at least for me) there's a fee for visa on arrival in Indonesia and possibly a departure tax too.
Upon landing in DPS, I spy a transfer desk. They tell me to go away and wait until CI check-in opens.
At the requested time I return to the transfer desk and hand over a copy of my itinerary and my passport. An airport staff member walks away with them, presumably to CI check-in landside. Eventually after about 20 minutes, she returns to me with a CI boarding pass, and a baggage receipt for my DPS-TPE journey.
There is one other lady doing the same transit process as me, and she is the only other passenger I see visiting the transfer desk in over an hour. Not a very busy place.
With my new boarding pass, I'm able to pass through security to the departures are without having to enter Indonesia. And my bag successfully makes it onto my flight too.
So all's well that ends well, even if the process of achieving this end is a little on the unusual side.
