Surely the Middle East forum would be a better place to check?

Err, because it clearly has "Israel" listed among the countries the forum covers. I even copied and pasted the sub-Forum description in my post above.
In this site, the "Asia" destination forum does not include "Israel"
The Middle East section does.
Up to you

Just Go
Israel is just fine.
It's not like people are dodging bullets in the streets. What exactly do you think will happen to you while you're there?
Just go and enjoy.
And it's spelled Israel.

ASIA
Israel is in Asia! There are seven continents, one of which is NOT the Middle East. But more to the point, please do not let fear keep you from visiting one of the world's great destinations.

My wife and I just returned from a 12 days tour which included the Golan Heights, several areas of the West Bank includiding Bethlehem, and Jerusalem. NO safety issues at all. We felt safer there than in many American cities we have visited.

But on this forum, Israel as a travel destination is listed within the "middle east" section, hence my earlier post suggesting that the OP might be better off looking/posting there for information.

I have been to Israel. It was fine as well the Palestinian areas. If you are Muslim (from anywhere) you will be detained at the border for 3-4 hours. No point protesting. Let them do their job and answer only the questions posed to you.

I was in Israel last week...mostly Jerusalem. Some time in the West Bank. Objectively it's pretty safe. Tourists are not a target but there have been a number of random stabbings recently which are targeted at police, IDF and members of conservative Jewish sects. (Three people were stabbed and the two attackers were shot at the Jaffa gate a few hundred meters away from us while we were having lunch outside the old city.)
West Jerusalem seems totally safe as is Tel Aviv. I probably would not go into the West Bank without an Arab tour guide.
Fascinating place and probably a lot safer than American big cities or than driving in a car, but if you are prone to worry, you might want to wait until things settle a little bit.
