JORDAN. Visa needed ?

On a cruise ship, stopping for one day in Aqaba , Jordan to visit Petra.
A couple with US and Canadian passports asked if they need one prior to boarding.
Cruise co. Sends them to a Service, different answers.

Anyone know ?

Mods please move as needed

Two years ago CDN & USA passport holders could get VoA.

Canadians and Americans can enter the country without the requirement of a pre-screened visa: you can simply pay for the Visa upon arrival. That's the way it was 2 years ago landing at AMM, and according to their travel website, that's the way it still is today:

FYI - Petra was 75$ US to enter and it will be a really long day if you plan on arriving, clearing immigration at the port, driving, and seeing Petra all in one day. The treasury is doable (3Km from entrance - almost faster to walk than take the donkey carts), but not sure you could hit the higher up places and be back to the ship in a day? Maybe look at pre-applying for the visa to shave some minutes of the travel time?

Since Pangaea split. Jordan is on the Asian continent, so yes, its Asian. While you can split it into regions for discussion, there is no discussion to be had based on geography.

Thank you....for a minute I lost faith in my school's geography teacher.

So back to OT, do we need a visa for a one day cruise stop ?

I would say yes. I'm on a cruise (US citizen) out of Singapore next year that stops in Vietnam and Tianjin and Royal specifically states I need to obtain the visa ahead of time for China and that I will be required to obtain the visa on arrival for Vietnam.

I'd assume that there'd be a liability issue if the cruise line released passengers into a visa needed country and the passengers didn't return and/or commit a crime regardless if it is two days or not.

I thought I could get away with the TWOV for China since I'd fly out from PEK but it looks like TWOV is only valid for airport/airport transfers/connections and not port-airport transfer, pitty.

Yes, I was using Vietnam and China as my personal experience to back my assumption for most likely needing one for Jordan. Like I said before, if the country requires a visa (ahead of time or not) you likely need to get/have one.

If you are still unsure, contact the cruise line for more information on this matter.

I of course had gotten a Chinese visa two years ago for a quick trip to Beijing and shortly thereafter they extended the visa applications to 10 years.... My luck
