Bali has lots of different localities offering different experiences.

I personally would stay well away from the Tuban, Kuta, Legian, Seminyak area, particulary during the holiday season as it is very busy and the rds are jam packed with traffic.

Faster to walk. This part of time also seems to attract the beer drinking party swilling yobbos - or thugs.

Sanur is more of a village but has everything you would need.

Nusa Dua is five star and great for relaxing by the pool or on the beach. Tanjgung Benoa is more like Sanur.

Lots of things to do, waterbom park for a water park, the safari parks for animals, surf lessons etc

Have a look and ask more specific questions, I am in Bali twice a year for the last twenty so have a bit of an idea of whats what

thanks and apologies for not being more specific..

have a lot of ihg points so was thinking of hol inn etc..
is the one in kuta nice??

the other questions were about day trips out of bali.things to do with kids-
like the idea of the waterpark but seems quite pricey for family of 5...

also is it worth going out to stay at ubud for a couple of days or is it just a day trip?

things to do kids ubud

Ubud can be a fantastic place for kids. Take them to the jungle where they can only amaze at nature. Temples are a great place to spot monkeys and feeding monkeys can be a great experience for them. Being the cultural hub, Ubud is also a great place to learn and enjoy art and craft. Woodcarving, painting, batik and dancing lessons can keep your kids busy.

Whatever you do, make sure you hit Ubud. I would possibly even stay there for a few nights, there is so much to do there. http://backpackerlee.wordpress.com/2...heart-of-bali/

Apart from Tanah Lot, all there is in the south areas are beaches, so if sunbathing and watersports aren't your thing, you may get bored.

I don't know if its out of your price range, but Conrad Bali is IMO one of the best resorts in all of Indo.

I have travelled a few times to bali with my 10 year old daughter. We love it.

My view

Ubud a must.

Think about getting to the Gilli Islands for some serious beach time.

Why not go rafting. Exciting a safe.

Check this out for a good deal. About 50% off

On hotels. We loved for family fun both the IC on jimbaren and the Grand hyatt. The Grand Hyatt has a great beach with very interesting beach combing just to the left of the hotel. There are nicer and more expensive properties but suites in both are very nice.

The bird park is a very good day trip. We loved it.

The Monkey forest in Ubud is cool. It's not even a half day activity, but Ubud is pretty nice too.

I would not let kids feed the monkeys. They do bite once you're out of bananas.

Snorkeling: fish and coral in Amed or Tulamben
turtles on the Gili Islands (and no motorbikes, so it's more peaceful). There is also a place on Gili T right out on the beach that takes care of baby turtles until they're big enough to avoid being eaten by a larger animal. You can walk right up and look at them. Avoid staying in the NW corner of Gili T, though since it's party central so quite loud. It will be very busy around the holidays, too.

There are companies that offer downhill bike rides through Bali. You are picked up at your hotel, they drive you up to a volcano where you have breakfast, then you coast down through towns, stopping to learn about how local families live, how rice is grown, and other stops to drink water and eat bananas. I loved it. There are some hills, but as long as you tell them you have kids, I think they will know what the kids can handle.
