Laos & Cambodia

I'm considering joining a tour to Laos & Cambodia or perhaps just one of these during Jan-Mar. I keep reading that there can be problems with air quality at that time of year due to some sort of slash and burn going on.

Can anyone offer any advice on this?

Is January better than March?

I do have the option of just going to Cambodia instead if that would be solve the problem.

Burning off field stubble is generally a problem in March, sometimes in late February. January is usually a much safer bet and with more comfortable weather even without considering air quality. March is considered the beginning of the 3-month dry, hot season, April also bad, and I find these to be two of the less desireable months to travel in this area. (I much prefer rainy season to March/April).

jiejie is quite correct. I have also found that northern Laos tends to be worse than southern Laos during the later dry season.

I haven't noticed anything appreciatively different in the air quality between seasons in Cambodia. But the dust gets worse as the land gets drier.
