I'm in Luang Prabang right now. 3 Nagas looks nice enough. I chose Le Bel Air for much less than what 3 Nagas charges. It's a very comfortable resort...not 5*, but new and clean in a nice location on the river just over the Old Bridge.

To the OP, you may want to look at Villa Santi as well. I stayed at the resort portion, and while a short ride from town, it was nice and relaxing.

I, and I think a lot of people don't trust trip advisor because so often people who are affiliated with the hotels are writing the reviews. At FT, I get to know posters and those who have similar tastes to mine and so trust their opinions far more. FlyerTalk is a perfect place to ask this question.
