How about taxis I'll need to take within the city (eg, from hotel to restaurants)? Do I need to worry about them, too?

Taxis within the city are ok. Anyway you always have the chance of taking a "radio taxi", you call them and they pick you up and take you anywhere with no extra charge. I have some numbers here of 3 different ones (they are all OK):

Radio Taxi picked me up the last time I was there, from the apartment I was in. From San Telmo to EZE was what I thought was a bargain. I don't recall if it was AR$70 or so (probably very close) - I'm sure fares have gone up a bit since then.

A considerable price increase for Buenos Aires taxi service was put into effect some 2-3 weeks ago... I think it was close to 30%. Still, Taxis remain very very reasonably priced for visitors coming to EZE.

Based on recommendations here, we used the Taxi Ezeiza booth in the terminal and paid $88. I won't say I wasn't scared, though. The hotel called a private car for our return to the airport. The price was $90, but we never exceeded 60 MPH.

Samftla,
I got on the website. It only allowed me to book from Buenos Aires. How do I check the return schedule and costs? |

You consider that a good thing? ;-)

Which? Control freak that I am, I don't enjoy being driven anywhere. Since I didn't want to drive in that crazy traffic, I chose to be driven. I felt much safer on the way back @55 than on the way in suddenly stopping 2" from the car in front every 60 seconds.

Indeed! Put me in a sealed metal tube at 30,000 feet for 10 hours anytime. That 30-45 minute journey to and from EZE along the crazy autopista is always the most terrifying part of each and every trip :D
What scared me more was the cab driver I had from BRC to downtown Bariloche how couldn't be bothered to turn the headlights on during a completely dark night. But I'm pretty sure he knew the way by heart as he was also continuously talking while driving in the dark :) |

Crazy driving will soon come to an end in Buenos Aires...... Mayor Macri is setting up his own police force and traffic laws are being revamped.... its gotta get tougher for drivers to continue with the usual goofing around. This will not be overnight but in 2-3 years this will be a different city to drive in.

pay in USD cash and double-dip
Dont know if this has been mentioned here already... but, aside from the posibility of getting a cash discount for purchases you pay in cash (Pesos), visitors can also pay in USD or Euro cash and enjoy a discount thats built into the exchange rate.
Example: if the going interbank rate will pay you AR$3.02 per US$1.00 - then some merchants will offer to take your dollars at AR$3.20, thereby saving you a trip to the Bank or Exchange Bureau and offering you a nice discount. |
Do some wine merchants do that?;)

Wine merchants are more low key about this whole thing.... ;) I suggest you just ask your favorite merchant for any special deals for alternate forms of payment... :D |
