If anyone can offer the same information about driving in Uruguay, that is a bonus that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

I use a state-issued DL from the US and at most am asked for a credit card and passport along with my US DL. The standard in more countries than not (including Argentina and Uruguay) in my experience is that a credit card, a state-issued (any of the US states/territories/etc.) and a passport have been sufficient for getting me a rental car and driving in all the places I have cared to drive myself.

Thank you, GUWonder. That has always been my experience as well to every country I have visited in which I chose to drive, but I always like to check before I go just in case...

That is what I have been asked for in the past as well. I will point out that you are required to have an IDL outside of Buenos Aires province. Given how easy an IDL is to obtain, why not save yourself the hassle if an accident befalls you?

Adding BsAs to "Featured Destinations" forum?

My wife and I are heading to Argentina in July for a week. We'll spend 3 days/2 nights at Iguazu and then loiter in Buenos Aires for a couple of days. We've got two nights at the Park Tower, and are thinking of two nights at Etoile, from recommendations here.

This thread has been an incredible source of information. Thanks to everyone here!

But the sheer size of this thread is pretty daunting ... it took a couple of days to read it all, and I'm sure I'll go through it again before we leave.

Any chance of adding Buenos Aires to the list of "Featured Destinations" forum?

Right, the way I understand it, the car rental companies are more than happy to take your money as long as you show a passport, DL, etc. And you can drive the car around no problems. The issue is if you run into problems and the police get involved (traffic violation or accident). Then you have problems because you are driving illegally (w/o an IDL) regardless of what the car rental company told you. Imagine getting pulled over in the US w/o a valid license. Not pleasant I'm sure.

I just spend the $20/yr for the IDL even though I haven't needed it yet (knock on wood).

Regarding Southern Winds - things are getting worse.

I booked with them an AEP-IGR round trip April 11-13. My travel agent just called, they REBOOKED it to 4/12-4/14 and they will not refund for a cancellation! They are now in bankruptcy. We just booked an Aerolineas Argentinas flight for the same day - it was just about $200US and I am probably out another $150US for the Southern Winds flight, but I will call my credit card company.

As Mayra said, "Welcome to Argentina!"

I think this is a great idea... perhaps it has to be suggested to Randy Petersen?

I dont know what the exact procedure for requesting a new destination is.... In any event, I throw in my hat to contribute and visit the area regularly and answer all questions I possible can.

Dear FBGuy--

Im truly sorry for your inconvenience. I hope that this issue does not affect the enjoyment of your trip to Argentina.

Good luck with your credit card company. If its not too much inconvenience, please let us know how things go.

It's not the worst problem in the world and not hideously expensive to fix.

I bought my ticket via American Express, and called them and put the charge into dispute. They immediately issued a temporary credit to my account and placed the matter under investigation. American Express is a more expensive card, but their service has always been very good when there is a problem.

Hola

GAUCHO 100K THANK YOU THANK YOU

just returned this morning from EZE, I was only in the city for
three and half days, it was fun, did the city tour, and Goucho
tour with a little bit of horseback riding. The food was great
but most of all the hospitality of the people, I look forwarding
to returning with the family next door. Ps I stayed at the
Loisuites Esmeralda, they have a wonderful staff, its a very
clean hotel, the bed is very hard, something I am not use too,
but for $54.00 a night, what more did I want, the royal suite?

thanks again :) :) :) :) :)

I put a request in at the "Community -> TalkBoard Topics" forum. Hopefully that's the right place for it.

Honeymoon in September?

Will it be too cold? I see the average for the month ranged between 50-65. I'm not looking for a beach vacation but don't want to have to bundle up. Any thoughts? Also would appreciate advice on a great/luxurious hotel. I thought the Four Seasons looked good but it is expensive compared to the vast majority of other luxury hotels in the area. Has anyone stayed in the Malabia House? It looks interesting. Also, I have heard good things about BoBo. I do want it to be first class - you only do this once right?

Gaucho100K - I bet you'd be able to direct me...
