Gaucho -
I have been reading through this thread and notice that you mention your "A" list and "also-ran" list. Do you have these lists in a post somewhere? Perhaps this would be a good thing to put at the first post of this thread? Thanks for all of your insights in this page.

While I can't make any recommendations, I do know that there are a good many Kosher (even Glatt Kosher) restaurants in BsAs - and not just in Once. We passed a few in cabs in El Centro.
I also believe that the only Kosher McDonalds outside of Israel is in BsAs.
If you plan to attend any services or Jewish cultural events you should probably make arrangements well ahead. It is my understanding that after the bombings some years back, the Jewish community (and indeed city officials) became extremely paranoid about any sort of Jewish gathering or structure, and make sure that they are protected quite vigorously (i.e. unless you make arrangements ahead of time you may find it difficult to make entry - also don't be surprised if you are asked to leave cell phones and/or cameras behind).
Edited to add: Here is an article describing some of the challenges faced by a Jewish reporter trying to get access to a synogogue.

For great French food in Buenos Aires I would add La Bourgogne which is located in the Alvear Palace Hotel - 1891 Avenida Alvear en Recoleta.

Patagonia Sur - way overpriced
Based on a Hemisphere Magazine article from a few months ago, I decided to try Patagonia Sur. In addition, my husband loves lamb and none of the steak places in BsAs offered it.
The restaurant is tiny - two tables that can each seat four, plus two more tables that seat two each - i.e. maximum capacity of 12 people.
My husband and I arrive first. The restaurant door is locked and one must buzz to get someone to open the door. Our son arrived later and told us that the radio taxi driver had to call to get directions to the restaurant.
The lunch menu was prix fixe at 260 pesos per person. The appetizers consisted of various salads. I had a fennel salad with pieces of very dry chewy tasteless centolla (king crab). While the fennel was good, the centolla was overcooked and could not compare with the fresh one we had in Santiago at Donde Augusto (El Mercado Central). Another salad had figs and proscuitto; the third salad was basically a mozzarella salad with some greens.
My son (not a carnivore) had sole as his main course - quite good. My husband and I each had the "7 and 1/2 hours lamb" - lamb cooked in a wine reduction for 7 and 1/2 hours. The lamb was shredded (kind of like pulled pork) and served with mashed potatoes. Somehow in the cooking process, the lamb lost its flavor and I wasn't sure if I was eating beef or lamb or pork.
The flourless chocolate cake was uninteresting. The dulce de leche flan was better, but the banana crepe with dulce de leche ice cream was outstanding.
Service was so-so. The waiter removed my husband's half eaten dessert while he was in the process of selecting a tea. When my husband noticed that his dessert was missing, he pointed it out to another waiter, who apologized. However, the original waiter never acknowledged that he had made a mistake and did not mention anything when he brought us the bill.
The wine list ranged from bottles costing 170 to 1500 pesos. Oh, bottled water was included in the 260 prixe fixe for free.
Aside from us, the entire clientele consisted of expense-account Americans on the day we were at Patagonia Sur. It's definitely NOT worth going of the way for.

Gaucho,
Is there a reason La Cabrera didn't make your A list?
It was one of our favorites back in November - I'm hoping the quality didn't decline as we were looking forward to returning when we come back in August.

We went to dinner at La Cabrera last night and was disappointed. Our steaks were over cooked, we ordered rare and it was more like medium and medium was like well done. The waiter offered a different steak and it was not much better. They give a huge portion, that could easily feed 2 hungry people, but we feel that the quality is not there. We came away unimpressed. IMHO, La Brigada in San Telmo is much better.
We had dinner tonight at Pura Tierra and it was one of the best meals we have ever had anywhere, and living in San Francisco we are spoiled with good restaurants.
