I'm guessing it's CYA language and in practice it posts sooner. One can hope anyway...

Visa gives you the almost MEP rate as they process the transaction

Mastercard gives you the rebate about 3/4 days after processing the transaction at the official rate.

AMEX are just messing about their loyal card holders.

Thanks for the link -- that was the overview I was looking for in trying to understand the current Argentine currency exchange situation. I have delayed my trip for a few months, so I'm not going to try to become an expert on the situation now -- since I'm sure it will change by the time I arrive.

Are there any available tricks to book an AirBnB in Argentina and pay using ARG Pesos? I don't see it available as an currency option on the AirBnB site.

The only way you'll receive any Blue or similar rate benefit is by paying cash in Argentina, or having a credit card transaction on a VI or MC processed as an AR$ transaction and processed in Argentina. Even if you "paid" an AR$ rate on the website, the odds that it would be processed in Argentina are well, unlikely. Very unlikely.

As full-time nomads 2022 Feb-July we were in 5 different AirBnB's in Buenos Aires. Then came back to BA in December for 30 days, and over to Patagonia til end of Feb 2023, in more AirBnB's. We also were in some lodges, hotels, and non-AirBnB apartments. We found no way to reserve on AirBnB and paying in Pesos.

HOWEVER, Booking.com has apartments, many that are the same apartment listed on AirBnB. I would say 3/4 of our Booking.com Argentine lodgings, we selected "pay at hotel" and used Pesos. Our one month trip in Patagonia was much cheaper because of this.

Ask me any questions.

We got the MER, not the blue rate on TDCT Visa and BMO Mastercard. Mastercard charges the full amount and then credits back the difference about three days later.

Thanks. Good to know. I suppose we still have to pay the foreign exchange mark-up that the credit cards charge for converting to Canadian dollars. But that is only a small percentage.

To circle back here, got 41% back 8 days later.

Will purchases made on the FlyBondi site (charged in ARS) be eligible for the MEP rate if using an US issued Visa card?

Just put through hotel in Tilcara on Canadian Amex after reading the above. I chatted through the app and they cut & pasted a couple paragraphs about the Amex foreign exchange policy and eventually claimed to know nothing about the tourist rate.
Didn't need to put the payment through on Amex but figured it would be an interesting dp.
Payment at regular rate went through this morning - I will update if and when this is finalized.

Amex has yet to make a statement whether they are involved in the new system

Visa and Mastercard confirmed that they are involved .
