Polo Match?
Hi, guys,
Anyone know if there are any upcoming polo matches at the grounds in Palermo? I went to www.aapolo.com but didn't understand all of information. I'd love to catch a match in the next 2 or 3 weeks.
Gracias!

The 116 Campeonato Argentino Abierto de Polo, will be played in Palermo November 14 - December 5, 2009.
Tickets will go on sale via Ticketek on October 17:

The Tortugas Open is being played now (at the Tortugas Country Club), and the second major championship will be played starting mid October at the Hurlingham Country Club.

This year we are going to be in BA at the end of October and were thinking of attending a match at Hurlingham. From the Hurlingham Club website, http://www.hurlinghamclub.org.ar/dep...7&sub=fixtures it looks like the final match will be played on October 31.
Is the Hurlingham Club accessible by public transit from downtown BA ? From the map on the website it "looks" like you can get there by regional train from Retiro.
And what do you think the chances are of getting tickets to the final match from the Club ticket office the day prior to the match ?
Any other comments on Hurlingham are greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

If you are in BA now you might want to check this out, http://www.aapolo.com/Default.aspx?t...language=en-US .
My Spanish isn't great, but these appear to be qualifying matches at Palermo on October 5th for the Hurlingham Abierto de Polo which starts later in October.
If you miss the matches on the 5th do consider taking in some of the action at Hurlingham. I don't recognize all of the team names in the Hurlingham tournament, but I see that Ellerstina and El Dolfina are there. These teams were the two finalists in last years Campeonato Argentino Abierto and are among the best polo teams on the planet.
Here is a bit more information on Hurlingham, http://www.buenosaires-argentina.com...hipodromo.html .

[If you take the train from Retiro, you get off at Estacin Hurlingham, which you can see on the map I linked below - the dotted lines are the train tracks. Retiro is at the end of the Subte C line]

I don't know about ticket availability ... you might want to call the club.

Thanks for the information, guys.
A match at Hurlingham sounds like fun. Is it possible to buy tickets online? And is there a schedule I can check somewhere online?
Phone conversations usually end up with me repeatedly saying, "Como? Como?"
As always, the help is much appreciated.

Probably your best bet would be to send an email enquiry to the club secretary, or administration. Somebody will surely be able to communicate in English (they probably have a lot of contact with the other major polo country - the UK).

Thanks very much for the info. Taking the train from Federico Lacroze sounds like a great idea. I have always wanted to visit the cemetary in Chacarita, so we can combine that with a trip to Hurlingham to purchase Polo tickets.
And bizco, if it is anything like Palermo you won't have any trouble getting tickets to the preliminary round matches at Hurlingham on the day before ( or even the day of ) the match from the club ticket office.
If you are planning to attend a semi-final match or the final match you might want to get tickets in advance. I don't see tickets for Hurlingham on Ticketek. And I have never been able to get Ticketek to work for me anyway.
I see on the Hurlingham Club website that they also have accommodation. That might be worth checking out for anyone travelling to BA who wants a night or two outside the city centre.

Tickets
For Tortugas, you can buy the tickets in BA (Calle 25 de Mayo 267, 3rd Floor) so Hurlingham may have this option nearer the time too, not sure.
We went last weekend to the semi with La Dolfina/Pilara and bought tickets at the gate 10 minutes before the game started, so I'm guessing it's the same for Hurlingham. However for Palermo in Nov/Dec (the final and semis) you definitely need to buy tickets way in advance. Note when the tickets go on general sale on the 17th, quite a few will have been sold already (to AAP members) so it's best to get in quick to get good seats for your price band.

The matches that a previous poster mentioned on the 5th at Palermo got postponed due to rain so are now tomorrow, Thursday at Palermo, starting at 2:30pm.

Also, on Friday is the similarly delayed final of the Jockey Club Open at San Isidro (with a team that just beat La Dolfina at Tortugas)

Also, for Argentine Open tickets at Palermo, here is the info.

Yes, welcome Polochick ! There hasn't been much info on Argentine polo in the FlyerTalk forums, so your contribution is most welcome.
Since my Spanish language skills are not great I struggle to get useful information from the aapolo.com website. Any updates you can provide on Hurlingham and the Argentine Open are appreciated.
Polo "do" anyone ?

While I cannot speak about 2008 or this year, I am quite confident that we've had no issue with getting tickets for semi-finals -- even the day of -- going back from 2007 to at least 1999.
