Hertz redemption is nightmare!
I tried to make a reservation for few days around the 7th - had enough points for a day.
It is not a blackout date. It didn't let me redeem.
Also tried in Ottawa around the 5th - same story.

Called CSR - manila reps tried and they could not either. It gave them an error msg - this promo not available?
Is my work CDP offending? I tried to make a 1day rental with points without CDP - still could not.
It used to be that right before finishing it, it will let you choose rewards points - that option is not there.
And I am at the 11month mark - pts will expire if I do not redeem.

What to do?

Should I give up Hertz to move to Avis?

I called again - Caribbean call center - they said that because I am returning at a different place (30mins) away I can not redeem points? Is this true?

She offered me $5 lower with points at my other location - I said something wrong and line disconnected.

Called again - El Salvador - he booked it at other place with where I return at the same location.

Is my remaining points are safe now given I redeemed a portion?

Still nightmare. I have the confirmation #. It shows in my account - but when I click "View" its pretty much empty.
I didn't get the email alert.
But points have been deducted.

What should I do? Any of you recently booked with rewards?

Is there a # for exe team?

Unfortunately, this sounds like typical Hertz 'customer service' and experience over the past couple years... and if anything it just keeps getting worse.

Dysfunctional website as you saw, and useless call centers.

Regarding the question of whether your points are safe now, I believe you need to gain points every 12 months to avoid expiry, so spending points only "saves" the points you use up. IIRC, there was a loophole before whereby you could redeem points and then cancel the booking to get the points back into your account which then counted as gaining points, but that loophole has been closed now AFAIK.

Resolved by going to the exe office.
El Salvador office managed to reserve using points but he apparently put an unwanted Zero somewhere that threw Error in my reservation. It also stopped email confirmations, which might still be unresolved. I have not received emails for the recent reservations. Errors appeared on my reservation just disappeared this morning.

It shows on my Activity page:
Adjustment - Oct 11 2024
Redemption - Oct 9, 11 2024
Rental Transaction - Dec 4, 2023

Proposed rental - Dec 5-7 2024.

Am I good now?
The gain came from Adjustment on Oct 11 2024.

Otherwise, I need to redeem remaining points for an upcoming reservation.
The issue is Caribbean office told me that I can not use points if I am returning at a different location - it was giving them an error. I am renting in Toronto Union bus stop and returning at the YYZ. For cash payment there is no penalty for returning at YYZ. Hertz local office told me that they can not see reservations in Canada.

El Salvador office told me that points can be redeemed for certain classes only - all kind of craps - So managers special didn't work!

What should I do to avoid loosing points at this stage?

The error msgs disappeared from my bookings from this morning.
However, reward redemption only shows up for US reservations - not showing up for Canadian reservations.
I am open to redeem rewards to avoid potential expiry - but Canadian rentals seems problematic for rewards redemption.

Is this correct?
"Rental activity means a Hertz Gold Plus Rewards point was either earned or redeemed on a rental." according to
https://awardwallet.com/blog/do-hert...points-expire/

https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/misc/...e=GPR_FAQs.jsp
"Points do not expire if you have a Hertz Gold Plus Rewards rental activity in the prior 12 months. Activity means a Hertz Gold Plus Rewards points were either earned or redeemed on a rental. Making a reservation or points transfer to a partner company does not count as rental activity."

I note that the OP was able to redeem their points so the original question of this thread was resolved.

The remaining discussion about points expiry is best held in the existing thread (where the OP has asked for assistance): Consolidated "Hertz Points Expiring/Expired" Thread

Let's close this thread.
