Points Refund?

My wife and I had a two zone bedroom reservation from CHI to SFW. We ended up being bustituted from CHI to KCY, then bustituted from SBB to BFD and finally coach on the San Joaquins to OKJ. The worst part is that there were two busses from SBB and we easily had time enough time to get to the Coast Starlight north of LAX. Can I get a full or partial points refund? If so, what is the best way to go about this? We got NO meals on the busses or trains and the worst thing was, no one told us what to do in SBB or BFD. (We used the wander around and ask anyone you see method of travel.)

The AGR T&Cs state:
If a Member needs to exchange tickets due to a disruption in service, Amtrak will book the Member on the next available train at the same level of service if available. If only a lower level of service is available, and the Member agrees to accept that lower level of service, the difference in Points will be deposited in the Member’s Program account upon request from the Member.
In short, you should be able to get some points back. You need to contact AGR for that. A two zone bedroom award is 30,000 points; 2 two-zone coach tickets would be 16,000. You are entitled, by my interpretation, to a refund of at least 14,000 points.

If you have complaints regarding the way Amtrak handled the service disruption, you need to write/call to Amtrak CS, but only AGR in Minneapolis will be able to address the points issue.

Do you think it is better to e-mail or call AGR?

I'd call (or perhaps fax). AGR, IME, is horrible at responding to e-mails.
