Empire Builder to Seattle - codes? Help

We are looking at going to Havre MT from La Crosse, WI...(June 7-12)..are there any promotional/discount codes available.

Any help in regards to costs, things to consider, etc. I am a first time Amtrak hopeful!! Is it cheaper to fly?

You might want to think about asking for the AAA discount....

Also, keep an eye on the "weekly specials" on the Amtrak website. Quite often, I see trains #7/27 and #8/28 listed. Remember, you don't have to go only from Chicago to Seattle or Portland. The specials are for any 2 points listed!

On the main amtrak.com page, click on the "Hot Deals" link on the top (middle). Then click on the "Weekly Specials" link in the middle of the page.

You will see a list of all the weekly specials offered for that week. But remember, they are for coach only, and they only offer a certain amount of seats (IIRC - 8 seats) at that price! But the fares can be 60 - 90% off!

Even though the list states "departing - Seattle" and "arriving - Chicago", you can choose any 2 stops listed! Example is you could choose Spokane to Minneapolis or Havre to La Crosse! If it's listed, you can choose it.

Although it's not listed this week, the weekly specials are (as the name implies) updated weekly! But just because it is listed one week doesn't mean it will show next week. And there's no guarantee that it will be listed either. But if it is - grab it! Many years ago, I found a weekly special from Albany, NY to Chicago for $19.50! And (almost) currently, I've seen New York City to Chicago listed for $44!

As mentioned, I would check for a AAA fare, but don't pick up your tickets. If the tickets have not been printed, there is no penalty to cancel.
