Checking in a TV set?
I'm thinking of trying to send a TV set with my dad on his cross-country trip tommorow on Amtrak.
I know the Amtrak website says fragile and expensive items are not accepted as luggage - does Amtrak strictly enforce this rule or is it just there for purposes of disclaiming liability for these items? Would they make a fuss if my dad checks in a heavy cardboard box?

If it weighs more than 50 pounds, then he won't be traveling with it. Especially if he needs help carrying it. And I certainly wouldn't check it in as baggage or it will most likely be broken by the time it arrives, unless you pad it very well. And again the 50 LB limit still applies.
