best way to keep points from expiring

Update!
You CAN cancel online. There's just a lag so you can't do it right away.
There does not appear to be a place online that shows expiry date. When I called, the agent said the award booking / cancellation would NOT extend the expiry date because you have to travel for it to extend. I asked for advice on how to extend this given COVID has made it challenging etc. She was kind enough to extend me on the phone and gave me a new 24 months
