Amtrak to decrease service on most routes Jan. 24 to March 27, 2022

From Trains magazine:
WASHINGTON — Amtrak will reduce Northeast Corridor, long-distance, and state-supported train frequencies between Jan. 24 and March 27, the passenger railroad announced Friday evening, citing “staffing challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and the highly active Omicron variant.”

Overall, plans will amount to an 8% reduction in train departures over the 63-day period. That will include 8% of Northeast Regional departures; two weekly departures on nine long-distance routes, which will be reduced to five-day-a-week operation; complete suspension of the Silver Meteor for the 10-week period; and 6% of state-supported regional service. However, the head of one regional operation contacted by Trains News Wire was unaware of the national network cuts or the staffing impacts on that individual’s service.

That's definitely unfortunate.

Need to dig into the data a little more but anything less than daily service on any line definitely does not help the line.

Agreed. I took the Empire Builder Chicago to Seattle last summer and seemed like primarily tourists. Doubt there are many of those now.

Has online booking been updated to reflect these cuts? I was looking at another Crescent trip in February and a ticket could be booked for all 7 days of the week I was looking at. I don't want to book a trip and then have it cancelled at the last minute (as just happened to me).

It appears the expansion of Acela trips effective Jan 24 (at least BOS-NYP-BOS) remains, putting service close to 2019 levels. Southbound from BOS at (roughly) 5, 7, 9, 11, 12, 2, 4; northbound from NYP at (roughly) 6, 8, 10, 12, 3, 5, 7.

The Crescent usually stops running south of Atlanta on Mondays thru Thursdays during January and February -- that's when Norfolk Southern schedules track repair work for on their line south of Atlanta.

Were you booking a trip that was only north of Atlanta?
