Tough PR days at Amtrak

Monday - they're asking an African-American passenger to give up her seat in the front and move to the back. The conductor "wanted to keep empty seats at the front" because she had "other people coming." On MLK weekend.

Tueday - They want $25,000 to transport group of 10. Five are in wheelchairs, so they need to charge the group to reconfigure their train. Plus lost revenue. What's an ADA?

Nice to see things haven't changed in the two years since I did work there. What a mess of an organization.

(OK, maybe P/R. Mods can move if desired)

I don't get it -- sometimes conductors tell you where to sit: long-distance trains, or (for me) on short hops up to Albany.

I guess Amtrak got unlucky regarding to whom this happened, what her race and sex is, and when it happened. Triple perfect storm

(And also that most people don't realize that sometimes the first class car is at the back of the train.)

Regarding the wheelchair incident: is the purpose of Amtrak to transport people or make money? Similar to Air India's dilema

One would hope that the "next generation" passenger cars would have seats that can be more readily removed when needed to accommodate extra wheelchairs, i.e., the electric kind that take up more room and cannot be folded up.
