Yes, train travel IS far safer than driving (as anyone knows).

Deaths per billion passenger miles:
0.07 commercial airlines.
0.11 buses
0.15 trains

7.3 standard vehicles, including passenger cars,
212 motorcycles,

Despite Amtrak tragedy, rail travel remains safer than driving, says UB researcher - UB Now: News and views for UB faculty and staff - University at Buffalo
“However, while our immediate reaction is to suddenly think that trains are dangerous, it’s important to remember that train travel remains statistically much safer than driving,” he said. “Trains are approximately 50 times safer per passenger mile traveled than cars.”
So, the ridiculous and unwarranted fear that Amtrak travel is somehow "dangerous" is clearly unjustified, no matter the vitriolic, irrational and immature attacks found in this forum (likely originating from aviation & highway interests).
Amtrak is one of the safest transport modes. Case settled.

Not necessarily, since this forum is Amtrak specific..

The study that you cite refers specifically to "train travel" in general, which most certainly includes commuter rail, and not "Amtrak" standing alone. In order to prove your point, you might want to research statistics related to Amtrak deaths per billion Amtrak passenger miles, and then come back with your findings..

I see. You only want stats that proves YOUR side, that Amtrak is somehow "dangerous," when the statistics show otherwise.
Got it.

Again, train travel is among the safest travel per-billion miles, with cars and motorcycles the most dangerous (according to the facts).
Case closed.

When you can provide data on Amtrak’s safety record, on a stand alone basis, I will give it consideration. However, using data covering all rail travel, to prove your point about Amtrak’s being so safe, is truly disingenuous.
