While reviewing my trips online today, I noticed a new section about e-tickets. Are they ready to implement this?

Where/when did you see this? I just booked a ticket, but didn't notice anything new/different.

On the mobile site when reviewing trip details.

X To quicken your boarding process, receive your eTicket Confirmation on your MMS enabled mobile phone or in an e-mail. Bring your mobile phone or a print out of your e-mail on board to show to our conductor.

Amtrak is currently offering eTicketing for the Auto Train and they were to have started it on one or perhaps two routes in California. I'm not sure if they've actually started in California or not. The Auto Train however is confirmed.

These will serve as the test beds for the new system, and assuming success, the system will then gradually be rolled out to the rest of the Amtrak system.

Aha! Thanks for the updates. E-ticketing for Amtrak sounds like something similar that Deutsche Bahn does in Germany.

I saw the 40th anniversary train in Los Angeles this past weekend, and they did have on display a sample e-ticket printout (for an Empire Builder trip to Shelby, Montana) and a mockup of the conductor's iPhone app. Not sure if those items have been with the exhibit train since it started rolling back in May, or if they were later additions.

I noticed that exhibit when I saw the anniversary train over the summer in New Haven.
