AMEX MR clawbacks for self-referrals (July 2019)

AMEX has apparently begun clawing back MR points earned by members who "self-referred" themselves when applying for cards. May be a good idea to check your MR balance, particularly if you have self-referred in the past.

Might due to the fact that they just changed their MR posting policy. They now post MR to your account upon payment, instead of in the next period like they used to.

Does anyone here know if AMEX is clawing back points if I do a self-referral from my DL card to another DL card? I am reading that AMEX is clawing back MR points given for self-referrals, but I don't know about co-branded cards.

Furthermore, how many credit cards are we allowed to have in one account; personal and business?

Any signs that AMEX is clawing back points from self-referrals for their co-branded cards like Delta?

I understood AmEx's position that the self-referral itself is a misuse of the process. So any such referral bonuses may be clawed back.

So far all of the dps seem to suggest that this affects only MR cards and not the co-branded cards. Any signs that AMEX is cracking down on those as well?

It's astonishing to me that anyone would self refer and not think amex would deem that a violation and seek to claw back.

Lots of people have been doing this for years. I haven't seen any reports of clawback until this summer.

Self referral has been common in Canada, but American Express USA system didn't enable self referrals until recently. Previously, I could only refer someone to apply for a card that I currently hold, and the bonus restrictions effectively mean that there is no benefit to refer myself for a card that I current hold (or closed very recently).

This changed when American Express USA introduced the refer-any-card system.
