They seem to have copied the design of the Amex Explorer card in Australia.

The big question is what's the annual fee. Is there any promotion, FYF, bonus points, etc.

Interesting but possibly irrelevant note. The Aussie card that it looks like is part of the Amex Gateway MR scheme. In Aus, the cards are tiered and therefore offer different partners and transfer rates.

For example this Explorer card in Australia can transfer to 8 Airline partners at a rate of 1 MR : 0.75 airline miles. Doesn't include Qantas.

don't know if Amex is set up to offer a tiered reward structure in Canada but curious to see how they will buffer the 5x on dining and groceries

It would definitely be interesting because Plat isn't really giving me what I don't already have at the moment.

Amex Canada currently offers different redemption rates if you use your points to pay for purchases (which it sounds like this card may be geared towards - i.e. the ads say "redeem for anything you want".) On my biz platinum card, 1000 points = $10, but on my gold card, 1000 points is worth $10 for travel purchases but only $7 for other purchases. So they could do something like that, but you can hopefully get around that if you have more than one card and if the points are pooled.

In the UK, Amex for a short time had a card which gave Express membership rewards (which couldn't couldn't be used for travel partners) but if you had another Amex, then they all just went into one pool and you could get around it.

The links to videos I posted have been taking down. Is AMEX watching?

It feels like the week before Christmas when we were kids. We could see all the colourful boxes under the tree and would try to guess what was inside, hoping it would be something more exciting than what it usually turned out to be

I hope it's HIGH bonus, HIGH annual fee and HIGH offsetting travel credit.

Something to the tune of Chase Reserve.

I think that it is hard to see them offering something good after consistently taking away SO much these past few years. If they make it a good offer, I may consider applying, but at this point, they took away my referral bonuses from Amex Gold, so I will be closing this account soon as they have not given me a reason to stay and there is little AMEX accepting businesses in Canada originally.
