Thanks for the prompt reply, Mia.

Well, I suppose I will just have to be content with the amount of SPG points I have left...at least for the next 5 or 6 years.....

I had a good run.

There will be no such thing as SPG points in 2 years, let alone 5 or 6 years.

So you'll have to be content with the amount of SPG points for the rest of your life.

Now, as to the successor points after the Marriott Rewards and SPG programs are merged into one (where Marriott Rewards is the far bigger program of the two, and Marriott is the far bigger company of the two), it's not been announced yet which bank(s) will issue card(s) for that new program. There might be news on that sometime in 2018.

So any rumors if the 35K offers will come back this month since it has been a year? :D

It's also less than one year until SPG as such may disappear, and maybe only months away from that being announced. So with all that, it's not clear whether Amex wants to invest any more in promoting the current SPG cards, given that they'll be replaced by new-program cards likely within a year (and, like I said, the announcement of those replacement cards may come sooner, as the general nature of Amex's two cards for the new program has already been announced).
