Rep says I'm "Highly valued customer "

Toward end of a phone call with rep he mentioned twice that he had seen it noted in my profile that I was a highly valued customer.

I did start a business about 8 months ago and opened 2 new business cards at the time
Currently have 3 Amex personal.
Yearly I charge $80,000 personal and about a $100,000 on business.

Does this really mean anything?

Well, since AMEX gets a percentage of your spend, I'd say it means something.

Good for you, OP! Maybe ask Amex what it really means?

I'd bet amex has some kind of customer profitability metric for all their customers.

Reason I say that is when I was at a Chase branch in August to apply for my CSR, the banked turned her screen to show me something and under the list of all my accounts it had an a dollar amount and "annualized customer profitability" or something to that effect.

I can't imagine amex,or Citi, it whoever wouldn't have something like that

I called Ritz Carlton (Chase) line a while ago and I was thanked for being "one of their best costumers". Maybe RC reps thank everyone but that was the 1st time that happened to me. I've 11 Chase cards.

Not to pop a bubble or anything...but I get that line " highly valued customer" too these days. I hardly spend anything on my 3 AmEx cards but I have been with them since 1982.

Agreed. I've been getting this line recently as well and my spend is not in the same range as OP. Probably a customer service quality thing. Takes 3 seconds, makes the customer feel special. Good policy.

The rep told me at the bottom of his screen there was an alert I was a HVC.

I'm trying to figure out if
A. HVC mark is for the phone reps knowledge Which he alerted me to
b. If it's just a marketing thing to make everyone feel special

Maybe it just means you weren't one of these people:
or one of these people:
or one of these people:
or one of these people;
?

Ie, they may not say it to everyone, but they may say it to a whole lot of people.

+1

I've taken AMEX out behind the woodshed over the last couple years and they always tell me what a highly valued customer I am when I call.

Ironically I believe AMEX does value their customers evidenced by my experience with customer service. This has been consistent for years

Yep, part of a script, so OP don't let it go to your head .

That's how I feel, too. I don't need a company to tell me I'm an HVC--I need them to show me. Amex does this pretty consistently.
