Alright, thanks for the tutorial Ben and rasheed.

Since I couldn't find any info on it, I just wanted to add that "Grocery Outlet Bargain Market" is considered a supermarket on the AmEx cards. I shopped at a few using an AmEx Blue Cash Preferred card and they all got the 6% cash back.

Is AmEx acceptance new for them? Last time I went to one around here (admittedly a while ago), they didn't accept it.

Not sure, sorry! I just got an AmEx for the first time this month. Perhaps only some stores take AmEx?

Definitely worked for me though:

Grocery Outlet is franchised, so I suppose each location can set its own policies. I don't think the parent company provides card processing.

I would guess they do as a way to ensure payment to corporate for the groceries provided to the store. There is no chance that an independent franchise would get their store classified for the supermarket category otherwise.

Why not? There are plenty of non-chain supermarkets that code as supermarkets.

I have only seen AmEx classify those that had more than one location. Of course, I can always be proven wrong, but I have not had the chance to see one off markets get to the bonus level.

For what it's worth, there's a local grocery store near me that's not a big chain (they just have two stores), and Amex classifies them as a supermarket and I get the 6% cash back there.

There's a small, one location, grocery store near where my mother lives that gets 4x.

There's a single-location liquor store with a deli and small convenience food selection down the street from me. Was pleasantly surprised to see my Macallan and Famous Grouse purchase code as supermarket.

My local Kroger (King Soopers -- Colorado) counts as a supermarket if you go through the regular cashiers, but not as a supermarket when you go through self-checkout. Same physical location. Very frustrating.

Don't know if this has been posted, but multiple Aldi locations post at 4x on my Gold card and 6x on my Hilton Surpass.

Does anyone know if Shipt is classified as Groceries? I'm using them a lot lately from Ralphs, Smart & Final and other grocery stores, similar to Instacart
