Please mark the decade in which your first American Express card was issued, as shown by the Member Since date embossed on the card. If you have cards with various dates, please use the oldest one.

NOTE: There is a typographical error on the poll form, which cannot be edited. The last line should read 2010 - 2013.

My daughter's first card was on my account. She got an 80, and was born in 1983. As soon as she got her first personal account, she had the Member Since date reissued into this century.

My mother's is 91 but mine is 02.
They used to. I believe they stopped in the past 3-5 years - but not exactly sure.

I got my first AMEX card in 1994, but cancelled it a few years later. I recently jumped back on the AMEX bandwagon and was pleased to see Member Since 1994 on my card.

'83. I don't remember if there were gaps in card ownership though. If so, would they keep the first date?

Member since '82.

The CSR I talked to yesterday said it was very rare for her to see a date that old. It actually made me feel " special".

I have been a member since 1981 and earlier this month along with an annual fee I received a congratulatory email for having been a member for 40 years. I currently have an Amex Plat and a Marriott Bonvoy Amex. I was a little disappointed that they didn't include anything other than the "congratulations".

I wonder if this is subject to the same age-out as the "lifetime" exclusion for signup bonuses -- my first AMEX was in college in the early/mid 90s, then I cancelled and had zero AMEX cards for a while (I don't recall exactly when). The "Member Since" date on all my cards says 2004.

You can ask customer service to adjust your Member Since date, but I do not know what information you must have to help them find the older account. I still have a physical card.
