Best way to use Amex premier gold rewards points for a vaction?

I have about 50k Amex gold premeir rewards points that I would like to use towards a vaction. Looking around and reading reviews it seems that this card is not as good for vacation rewards as I originally thought.

I have looked on amex.com and they have some decent deals that I can book though there, flight & hotel. Looks like I can get a good chunk of change off of the total price. But I then look around and I see some lower deals on sites like expedia and kayak.com. What would be the best possible way to use these points towards a vacation?

Thank you.

great question... I was just about to apply for the Amex PRG myself but I go on all the travel deal sites and find prices 50% of what my wife's Amex can get..

what the heck is the point of the Amex Gold/Plat.. from what I can tell the rewards suck.. 1 point on most items and redeem them and you get .0125 if you are lucky.

I can get the same hotel/flight for 50% off on many other travel sites.

best of luck to you.... I guess I wont be applying for the card any time soon.

I am not finding 50% usually 10% maybe 15% but thats still alot when you are looking to spend $2,000-$3,000. It seems like the rewards for travel are no good. But I still have all these points I would like to do something with.

The best value of AMEX MR points earned from AMEX PR Gold or for that matter from any other source if using them to transfer to one their Airline partners and using those miles for booking award flights.

See this post and this post for more information on AMEX MR points transfer partners and a story of using 80K AMEX MR points for an international business class ticket worth several $$$$ by transferring AMEX MR points to Delta Airlines.

Yes the main benefit of membership rewards is the flexibility of being able to move the points to various frequent flier programs. Move the points to some airline and you should be able to get one cheap flight with the 50k

If you time it right, you can get a transfer bonus and do even better. But if not, for 50k you can often get two coach tickets (25k each) - as long as there is availability. Takes a little more planning of course.
