FHR Question / Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas
Hi!
I have a question about the FHR benefits with the AmEx Platinum card. I am considering a trip to Las Vegas this spring, and see that FHR is offering good rates at the new Mandarin Oriental (the same rate you could get directly from MO, including the buy-two-get-one free night special that Mandarin Oriental is offering, as well as the standard FHR amenities.) This seems like a great deal.
If I needed to book two rooms (to let some family tag along), how would that affect the benefits? The fine print for the "get one night free" promotion sounds like it will apply to more than one room if paid by the same cardholder -- so presumably I'd get the third night free for both rooms (is that right?). But what about the FHR amenities? E.g., would the room upgrade apply to both rooms in the reservation, or only one room? I've never booked more than one room with FHR before so I'm not sure what policies apply. Any insight would be appreciated!
Thanks!
- Scott

I went to check out the MO in Vegas last week. Used PTS. The one night free offer was available at both the MO and the Wynn, btw.
The MO is essentially an oasis of peace, calm and tranquility on the Strip. It's very impressive how much you start relaxing -- think "zen" -- as soon as you pass the little bamboo forest in the driveway. This is the place to stay if you want to get away from things. It is not the place to stay if you want a 24/7 "Hangover" style Vegas experience
The MO does not have a casino and is obviously geared toward an upscale crowd, or even the high-end business traveler. If you have visited any of the other MOs around the world, you will probably understand this. It was very classy and the staff were more friendly and attentive than anywhere else I have been in Vegas. I particularly liked the elevator greeter, who would escort you to the registration desk as soon as you step off the elevator in the upstairs lobby.
Basically, it's like the other MOs around the world: Asian theme, service second to none, a quiet and tranquil environment, and high prices to match.
Note that the swimming pools were still under construction as of mid-February 2010.
