I just called Citi, and after the phone agent put me on hold for about 15 minutes to speak with a manager, I was informed that my new card design should arrive in 1-2 business days.
EDIT: Called back tonight. Agent had info and reissued card.... |
Called Citi and asked the agent about the design. He didn't know what I was talking about. However I asked if he could re-issue with it and he gladly complied. Said I'll receive by regular mail in 4-6 business days. 5 min phone call total... let's see what lands in the mail in a week.

Honestly not very impressed with the designs. They look pretty cheap but maybe in person it'll look better. AA should've released a limited edition design for all three annual fee cards based on one of their centennial planes instead.

It's "officially" been released today in their press release:

The only problem is that based on my experience with Citi, my card will get hacked again in 3-6 months (yet my AMEX and other cards have never once been hacked) and I'll have to get another one once this design is over - back to the old boring design.

New card arrived today, very surprising. Old design, no new logo.

Interesting. My Citi AA has never been hacked, yet I'm on my "07" iteration of my AMEX (PLT), so it has been replaced (hacked - never lost) 6 times....
I do like the look of this new card but I'll wait a month or so before calling to request a replacement due to an unfortunate event. |

My corporate Amex has been compromised three times since 2009. My Citi AA cards (no-fee and exec) have never been; other now-defunct cards have been at various times. The best was a phone call I think from Barclays when I had their AA card, "Did you buy biz-class tix on Iberia from Barcelona to Buenos Aires?" "Well I wish I could afford that, but no."

I'm not sure why we could blame Citi or Amex or any card issuer for cards being hacked. That would be the fault of whatever vendor leaked the data, right?

Meh. Especially nowadays when the card rarely leaves the wallet, why would one care about a card design unless trying to impress someone?

When it has happened 15+ times to my Citi card, and 0 times to my AMEX (or other banks in the past) and all have been daily use cards at some point or another, you certainly have to wonder if it's something with that bank. Either something is getting leaked, their fraud prevention is weaker, or something!
I got my Citi card in 1994 (it was a Visa at the time), and it got compromised only twice. But unless we compare the usage over a long period, it's all anec-data. |
Received my new AA exec card in the mail today with the old design...
