Bumped from MCE...Why?

Flying tomorrow, PHL-SAN, AA690. Had seat 9D since booking. After check-in, got bumped to 12C (non MCE). What are some possible reasons for this? Someone with more status and/or running LP's? I'm currently EXP with about 112k current LP's. Something else?

And, apologies if there's already a thread on this.

You won't be bumped for someone with more status or LPs.

A few possibilitiies are
  1. Equipment swap - Aircraft type change. Sometimes, the system glitches and reassigns seats even if the swap is to the same type. Someone may have been looking and snapped up 9D
  2. Broken seat - Unlikely this early though
  3. FAM - Air Marshall. In which case, you're stuck.
You can call AA and ask if they can see anything. If it is #3, they can't/won't say anything.

The seating chart is still showing several MCE seats available. Most are middles, but I see an exit-row window available.

Yes, indeed, I took the exit row window. Thank you.

Just boarded flight, and saw a parent in what was my original MCE seat, seated next to her 2 children. So, apparently that's why I was bumped.

How long ago was that? Somebody on the board who still have native SABRE might be able to check that out you.

Sounds a bit like an unathorized favor to a friend (or accommodating a manager) if you were deported to a different class of seat (and did you get a fare adjustment)?
