Delay compensations?

We were on AA73 on 2/27 from LAX. Red eye flight turned into 9am departure on 2/28 with 11 hours delay. AA covered hotel and $10 meal voucher.

I wrote customer relationship and we rec'd 7,500 AA miles per person while my sister is law does not have an AA account (crediting AS) got $50 AA travel voucher. Is this the going rate with AA IF you follow up with them?

As a datapoint, my son on UA's hydraulic issue flight from SYD-SFO receive an automatic email when he land with $175 UA travel voucher for his 24 hours delay. UA also covered airport hotel and AU$105 for 3 meals to be use at the hotel.

What is your AA status? What cabin were you flying in?

We also got the hotel paid for and a paltry $10 food voucher each. After I submitted for compensation, we ended up getting 12,500 points each for our 14.5 hour delay. For reference, I am EP, and he is Plat, and we were flying in First. I was not at all impressed with this compensation, given the very expensive tix that we paid for.

Award seats in Y. Million miles gold and spouse with no status. Truly a laughable compensation and we have to initiate the ask for their apology.

We flew back on QF’s A380 and we will pick QF over AA on this route due to…

1). 70 pounds baggage limit instead of 50 with AA.
2). Bigger Y seat recline angle.
3). Nicer pillow and bigger/thicker blanket.
4). Under the seat has a mesh pouch that you can put your feet in as a foot rest.
5). Service begin with a 12-16oz bottle water.
6). Better food quality & a warm chicken sandwich during mid flight service.
7). AA gets one point for serving Hagen-Dazs while QF’s chocolate ice cream bar is not as good.
8). Bigger snack selection with QF at the galley. Self serve water/juices, Tim Tam, apple slice, cheese/cracker, some sort of “soy” cracker and chocolate cookies.
9). FAs walking down the aisle every hour with water.
10). A380 is just more exotic than 777-300ER.

This was exactly what a lady traveler was telling GAs when they were printing the vouchers. GA basically told her (and everyone else) that they cant change the amount and it is all system driven.

For us, not much! Dunkins line was super long and the other cheaper eat was La Provence in T4. I didnt order anything and our bill for 3 eaters came out to be $43 for 1 coffee, 1 water, 1 breakfast sandwich and a few muffins and croissants to use up all $40.

Hotel options were Sonesta or Holiday Inn near I-405. Next morning in the mad dash for hotel shuttle (every 30 mins), we were talking to other flyers that we should had gone with the closer Sonesta (every 20 mins) instead.

Looks like there have been two 8+ hour delays on this flight in the last week. Anyone have any intel on what might have happened? I'm flying this flight on Thursday 7/3 and just curious if there's any sort of recurring issue happening here.

Looks like another 13 hour delay on AA73 last night. Seems like the flight took off and returned back to LAX shortly after.

Interesting. From EF flight status remarks:

5LAX/FLT 0073 STUB ORIG PLN DEP LAX ETD 0600 -- LAX .RMKS A/I FOR LOAD DISCRP FTWDP SASHA *0329
1SYD/ARNTP/RTRN TO LAX ETA0040FUEL/PAYLOAD ISSUE

Can't say I have a conclusive interpretation.
