Republic E-175s Are Decrepit

Does AA/Republic have any plans to refresh the E175s? (Dumb question I know, since they can't be bothered to update the A320 cabins).

The cabins are generally run-down, the seats in both classes are worn out, the Wi-Fi only works about half the time, the outlets are unreliable, and basic service equipment (like lav hot water/the lavs themselves and coffee makers) often don't work.

It's gotten to the point that I actively prefer the PSA CRJ-900s (which appear to be much newer). Delta's Republic E175s aren't in the best of shape either so I lean toward blaming Republic, but AA's are noticeably worse. It's a real problem for hubs like DCA and LGA, where AA puts the E175s on some pretty long routes.

Delta announced that they're adding satellite Wi-Fi to their RJs, so hopefully that puts some pressure on AA to at least update the onboard internet.

I've never noticed this, but it has been a while since I've been on a Republic 175. Historically though I've liked them - my favorite single aisle plane, and Republic crews always seemed decent overall.

Was on Envoy 175's last week - they were fine too, 1 flight had a good crew and the other was marginal.

I do quite a bit of flying to DCA and LGA, and I know exactly what your talking about. The unreliable Wi-Fi is particularly annoying. Every once in a while you get a plane that isn't so bad... but, by and large, the aircraft could certainly use some TLC.

The Envoy E175s are in much better shape.

The Republic crews are great.

The 145s are in much worse shape, generally, at least in my experience flying several of them out of PHL this year.

+1

175 still better than these; you dont have to gate check if you board early.

Agree that the wifi sucks but I'll take 1A on the 175 with some scuffs and crumbs over the CR9 any day.

1A is the best.

That said, I'd take the E175 or CR7/9 over an E145 any day. And anything with one dead engine even over a CR2

Indeed. I'm 5'10" so not super tall but when I'm in coach, the legroom is fine even in regular seats.

Earlier this year I routed YYZ-DFW-PWM to avoid an E145. It was worth it.

I will say the wifi sucked on both e175 flights last week. Historically, it had been ok - not great, but usable. This time it wasn't for the most part.
I wonder if more people are using it these days, possibly via more Tmobile plans including it?

I'm on a skywest E175 now and the wifi is ghastly. Couldn't even load the login page for 45 minutes. It would paint the background like an old dot matrix, line by line. Haven't been on a non-satellite aircraft in a while.

Aircraft is in good shape otherwise.
