AA Award ticket PHX>DFW>CDG First leg delayed so much and was rebooked PHX>LHR>CDG

AA Award ticket PHX>DFW>CDG First leg delayed so much and was rebooked PHX>LHR>CDG

Who is responsible for the following?: Award ticket flight PHX>DFW>CDG where the PHX flight was delayed so much the connection would be missed at DFW Rebooked the following day PHX>LHR>CDG and the last leg is on BA and LHR is a mess today with hundreds of cancelled flights. If the BA flight from LHR>CDG is cancelled who is responsible? AA or BA? Can the cost of the train from London to Paris be covered or reimbursed from BA or AA?

can you push for a different routing to get to Paris? Heathrow is the last place in the world you want to be right now with NATS down. Maybe CLT, JFK, ORD or MIA on IB or AA to any other destination other than LHR?

You'll never get reimbursement for Eurostar service.

BA would be responsible for the cancelled flight and would owe you duty of care (food, hotel, etc). They would need to eventually get you to Paris, but that's going to be difficult. You can call BA and try to get rebooked on Eurostar, but they may not be willing to do so, especially since it's an AA ticket. Your travel insurance may cover a train, although London-Paris trains are going to be packed.

There's a decent chance your PHX-LHR flight will get cancelled, although BA is prioritizing longhaul flights over shorthaul. If that happens or if your LHR-CDG flight gets cancelled before your PHX-LHR flight takes off, AA should rebook you on a flight that avoids LHR altogether. Assuming you're leaving today, there's still a seat on PHX-ORD-CDG and PHX-DFW-CDG. You may want to call in and plead your case to see if they'll move you to those flights.

LHR is prioritizing longhaul flights, so it's entirely possible that US-LHR flights on AA operate as normal. BA's shorthaul operation is in tatters, though, so they have a waiver in place for the next couple of days. Going to AA with that waiver now in place should yield the ability to rebook, but depends on how aware the AA agent is willing to be.

Not clear when you're travelling and thus where you are. If PHX-LHR is tonight you might be fine, if you're already at LHR then it will depend what BA can offer you to CDG.

More specific details beget more specific answers. Even on FT.

Will AA or BA cover hotel costs at LHR even though this delay was beyond their control? Just to give you folks a taste of how crazy things were at LHR the Marriott Heatrhow Moxy was over $800 a room.

BA should cover hotel costs as UK/EC 261 still requires duty of care even in extraordinary circumstances. You may have to argue on the $800 but there's a great thread on the BA board about the best way to do that.

They’ll cover the hotel no quibbles. Usual guidance is around £200 but in times of mass disruption the reality is there are no £200 rooms anywhere near LHR at these times. If you want to be extra cautions keep some screen shots from whatever site you’re using. But I’d say even that is not necessary as they will obviously know the score and you won’t be the only one handing them a fat bill. Also keep receipts for food (no booze) and any other reasonable essentials like taxis and clean undies if you can’t get to your checked bag.
