AA Pilot rant on plane etiquette goes viral

A unidentified AA captain goes on a rant over the loudspeaker during boarding.

According to the article "A video of an American Airlines (AAL) - Get Free Report captain giving an angry-parent-style lecture on proper passenger etiquette has gone viral after a passenger aboard a flight posted it online"

Sad that it has come to this, to tell idiots how to behave like grown-... adults and not shrieking toddlers, but here we are. I don't have any problem with what he said.

Likewise, and I'm not the sort to have much patience for holier-than-thou lectures. Unfortunately this one is plainly warranted.

Do you think this pilot will be reprimanded?

I agree with his comment about not listening to speaker phone videos, calls etc.

Yes, people suck sometimes. And yet this is an unprofessional diatribe. Somebody needs a new career. Or at least a vacation.

I think it's fantastic. I'm glad the pilot said what he said. He maintains a rational and polite tone. It's more a reality check for our selfish society than a rant. I'm here for it.

Just read the transcript, and hurrah for the captain. Especially the bit about viseo/calls and the arm rest thing

They should start playing this recording on all flights going forward.

I wholeheartedly agree with the content of his message but I find his tone a bit inappropriate and condescending. I don’t know how efficient these types of lectures are on the people who actually need to listen.

He speaks the truth. Unfortunately as someone above said, the people who need to hear this stuff are the ones never listening anyway. At least now the FA's have something/someone to point to when calling people out for these kinds of things.

Agree 100% with the message. The tone could've been a bit friendlier, but it's fine with me. While it's true that a lot of the people who make up the target demographic of this message will just ignore it, I suspect that many of the nuisance passengers are honestly just oblivious. Hopefully this announcement (either in real time, or as watched on social media) will wake some of them up.

It's completely unprofessional. I would never advocate for someone to be fired or even formally disciplined otherwise for something like this (perhaps he was simply fed up after some recent incident with a passenger and was blowing off steam).

However, the airline, or perhaps even just his peers, should strongly advise him not to repeat this behavior, in my opinion. Paying customers, most of whom are adults, shouldn't be lectured in this manner.

If passengers acted like grown human beings and not cattle such PAs would not be necessary. But today bad behavior is considered "cool."
