AA175 DFW TO HND business class seat layout

Does anyone know if this flight has the business class seats that face backwards? The app is showing its a Boeing 787-800. Not sure if it's the new dreamliner or not

I don't know, but don't the rear facing seats usually have the divet in the seat map to indicate that? If they all look like normal squares, I think that means all forward facing barring an AC swap.

All 787-8's have 20 business class seats. You won't know if it has rear facing Zodiac seats until a day or two before the flight.

Wait, isn't there only one AA 787-8 seating arrangement currently?

No. in the 787-8 fleet, 20 of the 33 in service have the rear facing zodiac seats.

FWIW, I believe after the recent additions we’re up to 16 Super Diamond vs. 20 Zodiac. May the odds be in OP’s favor…

AA reported in their late January 2023 investors call that there were 55 787's in the fleet, with 4 more 788's coming this year. Since there are 22 789's (and no more coming until 2024),there are 33 788's, with expectations there will be 37 by end of year. I guess it's possible some of those have delivered since Jan 1. But it's true that the number of zodiac equipped birds will remain constant at 20. The 788 fleet will ultimately be 37, leaving a little more than half with the rear facing seats.

If you want a guarnteed forward facing seat just book one of them that are on the 788. That way regardless which type you get, you'll be forward facing barring any seat change forced by the system during an equipment swap.

As someone that hates the rear facing seats, this is great news! How do I find out if my ICN-DFW flight will be old style or new style? And why doesn't Seatguru have the new style on its website yet? (Or am I blind?)

Actual equipment isn't assigned until about 2 days prior to flight. So the best way is to book a forward facing seat that exists on both types. SeatGuru is outdated. Check out Aerolopa.

I flew AA 169 and AA 170 from LAX to HND. On the outbound the plane was an older frame with the old seats. I was glad I could share the trip with the person behind me. When they moved I moved. On the return, we had the newer configuration. Much better and spacious. As someone mentioned you wont know the actual config until a few days before. I used the "FLIGHTY app and it is great for sharing the age of the plane.
