If upgrade space isn't available then they'll just put you on the waitlist. If you provide your flight and date then many of us have access to ExpertFlyer which is a paid service where we can check for you before you call.

If you have the option, you might reroute on the 707am flight TPA-DFW, connecting to 1125am DFW-HNLTPA-DFW-HNL. Do the same on the return. The DFW-HNL-HNL segment will be a widebody (787-9) with more F seats and a generally more pleasant experience for a longer flight - even in main cabin extra or premium economy. For waitlisting, just call and request to apply a points+copay upgrade.
