Ok - I may have gotten lucky, but I'll take it. Based on all of your input - I see a business class award usa to europe (specifics don't matter) on a certain day for 57.5K miles. That number matches the number on the award chart.
So - i should be able to call cathay - and book it...right? (other details pending - lots of red tape and fees and such - not the point, really)....make sense?

Another way to tell is by clicking "details" when selecting a flight.
If one of the booking code options is T (main cabin) or U (business) then it is available at the milesaaver level. This is important because there may be a websaaver that is less than the milesaaver cost, and that doesn't always mean the milesaaver is available.
Example is right now is May 14, LGA-ORD, 6am (AA2911). Both economy and business right now are below milesaaver cost. But there's only milesaaver coach available, not business. You still have to hunt and peck though.

Thanks again, everyone, all great ideas.
In the "calendar" view - I can easily see if the miles (on any day) match the reward chart - so at a glance it is possible to know where the best chances are.
Still - it is kinda crappy that AA (to be fair...and others) - don't give you some "help" here.
Of course, "FLIGHTS" are the main part of their business, and in the PLAN TRAVEL tab it's the smallest of fonts. So...hard to say what's in the minds of the web designers.

Based on my recent experience with BA, it would appear that space that's bookable on AA BELOW the Milesaver rate is also bookable on partners so long as, obviously, it's not designated as a "Web Special." I was looking at DFW-LGA flights, which tend to be (by AA standards) very inexpensive these days, assuming a Saturday night stay, on account of competition from NK.
