Partial status challenge possible?
Looking at status challenge options from United Airlines for next year, and found information about the amount of points needed to match/extend equivalent status. What happens if I am status-matching for Platinum Pro (from UA Plat) and only accumulate enough points for Platinum (UA Gold)? Will I receive AA Platinum, or am I SOL?

Some Status Challenges come with a choice of Elite Level for the Challenge. Whatever you chose will have its own targets. I'm pretty sure if you miss the target for the Elite level you chose, you lose that status with no consolation prize of the next Elite tier below your target.

If you do a PLT challenge, you only have one goal to meet, the goal to get to PLT.
If there is any change from this, it would be specified in the challenge. I recommend, before signing up for a challenge, you already have plans for the flights needed for that challenge.
There is no point in signing up, unless you are pretty sure you are going to qualify for the challenge goal

My concern is that I am very close to hitting UA Platinum due to UA gifting me thousands of dollars worth of PQPs--I am looking at future flights with AA now, and hitting their platinum status challenge is much more attainable than their platinum plus.
I am afraid that if I hit UA Plat, I will be in a situation where I am trying to match for a status I will not realisitically reach.

If not, then choose the one you would most likely reach, assuming you will get enough out of the status that make it worth the costs of achieving it. It takes 12500 EQM worth of flying to earn 4 500 mile upgrades as PLT.
Being based in the DFW area, as a PLT, upgrades are rare for me. The last on I got was on a Labor Day Monday flying LAX-DFW
There is a slight RDM benefit advantage for PP. I think it is 8 Redeemable miles per dollar for PP and 7 for PLT. If you make Platinum on AA, will that reduce how often you will fly AA in the future?

Are you already signed up for an AA challenge?

I think that AA offers status "challenges" not "matches."
You do not have to have status on another airline to participate, but you do have to pay a fee. The fee is higher after June 15 but the status you earn runs through the end of the following year.
I think you have to hit your target or you whiff - in other words, if you challenge to Plat but only make Gold, you get nothing.
I'm not sure they challenge to PPro.
However, you will not have status until you earn it. For example, on DL you get matched for your 90-day challenge period, I think - not sure - that if you challenge Plat, you might get gold when you hit the gold challenge level, although you might have to pay extra.
I think you can do a challenge every three years, but you can't do it if you have status - if you are gold, you can't challenge for plat.

That may have changed. I was given status as soon as my most recent challenge started.
Generally, but not always, true. I've successfully completed 3 EXP challenges in 17 years, and always had PLT status when I requested the challenges.
That said, EXP challenges are often a little different from the lower-status challenges. They are sometimes customized for the specific customer. And there's never been a fee.

AA has public challenges to their Gold and Plat levels, you have the option when you sign up to get temporary status if you are willing to pay more. OMAAT had a nice article recently, see https://onemileatatime.com/how-to-do...tus-challenge/
