Using AA flight credit on BA?

I have a flight credit from a cancelled Covid flight on American Airlines. I'd like to use it on a BA flight, in the UK. Has anyone had any luck doing this? I'm assuming that would take a phone call and some negotiating? Or am I SOL?

It would have to be a codeshare marketed by AA.

Yea, if this is a standalone BA flight in the UK, then you're SOL.
