DL does this for Lifetime members by putting the expiry as year 2079. For Club members it makes sense to have no cards issued. AA and DL only allow access to their own lounges (AA gets you into AS and QF) when traveling within their respective alliance so it is very likely that the FF number is in the booking anyway. Physical card was useful to present along with paper bp back when any airline was allowed. For UA, it would make sense for LH to start accepting the digital one. I find that club cards are different from Elite cards given that they must be rarely shown.
I image the free access was only supposed to be a 1 year thing. It came in very handy at a time I was living in Las Vegas casino hotel comps and needed someplace to work on check out days. I got DL to match my AA EXP status at the time and at that level they were giving Regus lounge memberships. I never did actually fly on DL with the status though.

On the AA app if you click on "view card" or something it automatically generates a Wallet pass, you probably clicked on "add" by accident and forgot about it, never heard about passes/cards falling into Wallet automatically.

That sounds like something I would do! Thanks for the help.

Somehow this thread seems to have skipped over the announcement that physical cards are now being sent again, for PPRO and EXP only. I don't immediately see another thread discussing that announcement either.

Of course Boarding Passes are never wrong, so there is never a need for a card
