American Airlines is trying to reach me. Legit?
Today I received an email from [email protected] with the subject line "We're Trying to Reach You"
The headers all look genuine but I wanted to see if anyone knew if this was genuine or a phishing attack?
If it is genuine do you know what it could be about? Credit card sign-ups / buy mileage points?
Hello, xx
Im with the AAdvantage program at American Airlines. I tried calling you today to check in and see if you had a few minutes to chat about your AAdvantage mileage balance!
When you're free, please call me at (888) 225-0725.
In the meantime, please take care of yourself and know that we are looking forward to welcoming you aboard again soon!
All the best,
Joseph B.

If you don't believe me, your best option is call AA Advantage but not to that number but to the numbers you know.
800-882-8880 for AAdvantage
or your elite desk number.

I am assuming the scammer does not know your voice. Maybe share the email with AA Security and ask if they want to call the number and shut down this clown.

Not unique to AA or the travel industry.
Anytime you are contacted by someone and you are not expecting the contact, do not respond. Email, phone or especially by clicking on a link.button.
Rather, if you want to follow up, call a published number and ask.

Legit based on what?
The best advice anyone can get when dealing with a company contacting them is to decline to continue the conversation and get back in touch with them via an official phone number that is published on their website, on your billing statement, etc.... in this case, one from aa.com

Not worth the risk. If it's benign, you will find out by calling a published number. If it's a fraud, merely calling in confirms a broad array of information even if you then hang up.
