I was supposed to leave on May 26 to meet up with my church group in Israel no later than a certain day and time. When I went out to American Airlines web-site my outbound flight was no longer listed. I requested a refund of my 4,600 dollar ticket on May 17th. It is still sitting out there indicating pending review. For what? How long is it going to take them? I need my money..

Hello and welcome to Flyertalk. If you looked at some similar threads that have been posted asking similar questions, you will notice that most respondent idicated getting their refund within one week of request.
Take care.

1: Try searching and reading the forum, you may have found one of the other threads about this exact issue
2: If it's hurting you this much you shouldn't have booked the ticket in the first place. 7.0.3

I normally do not comment on people's comment, but I found your comment to the OP rather pathetic. Maybe you are a rich person living in Hawaii and high members of airline and hotel programs, but to some of us that amount of money is significant. Perhaps the OP has been saving up to take this to the Holy Land as a spiritual fulfillment. They may have sacrificed having and doing a lot of things to be able to take this trip of a life time. I found your comment "2: If it's hurting you this much you shouldn't have booked the ticket in the first place. 7.0.3" very insulting and insensitive. I am glad you are rich and well off, but perhaps you might want to learn that not everyone is like you.

I did this (disputed) recently with a Southwest ticket and I got my money credited back to the credit card within a couple of days from Citi. Case closed.
I'd suggest you do the same.

I cancelled a ticket on April 26th which included SWUs and it had to go through a two stage process. Last week after 2+ weeks my SWUs were restored and then finally yesterday on May 21st I received an email indicating that the refund had been initiated. It could then be up to another 7 to 10 business days before the credit shows up though in the past they have posted sooner. They are swamped with the refunds but it seems that they are working through them.

As a point of reference, I cancelled and requested refund on Sunday May 3 and received my refund 9 days later on Tuesday May 12. It will continue to say Pending Review until you receive the email notification with the subject Your refund is complete.

I had two refunds in April that AA actually initiated (to my shock, they called me). The first one, purchased with points, went through within days, though the fees took weeks. The second one went through in about two weeks (could have been a little longer even), though an extra fee for a bag took an additional week or two.

I booked a trip with money for me and a ticket for my niece with points. I called AA and asked that they cancel the tickets. They did so and the points were immediately back in my account. It has been just a few days for the money ticket, but I'm not concerned.
A trip that I should have been on now was canceled and the refund was granted in 7 days.
