Award routing US-Eur OR ME-Asia rules changes 2 Apr 2019
Just this past Sunday I was looking at options on aa.com from COK to DFW and saw several options on QR from COK through DOH to points in Europe and then AA to DFW for 40K in Y.
Yesterday I noticed these options were not available. I saw options where QR operated flights from COK to DOH to USA but nothing through DOH and Europe. I called AA and gave the routing and it priced out as 50K. The agent spent quite a while escalating the issue and was told that something changed on Apr 2 and such a routing is not allowed as one award.
I have access to EF but not sure how to read if routing rules have changed. Did something change on Apr 2?

But unless something has changed the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent have always been considered the same region for 3rd region routing purposes (just like they were before AA split them up).

Changed over a year ago, I'm pretty sure I tweeted it at the time but realize I never updated my Flickr etc.
At that time, the clarification was added:
N.America <-> India Sub Cont can connect in Europe -or- Middle East.
a few other changes at that time as well, minor ones

What explains the price change from the price shown on the March 31st search this year to the higher price for the search done this year on April 2nd/3rd/4th/5th?

I can confirm that aa.com was previously showing flights connecting in Europe AND ME. Indeed, those were the only USA-India award routings involving QR available during Dec'19-Jan'20, since QR had removed all award availability on USA-DOH nonstops.

Big ups to @UA Fan!
This change he discovered is kinda minor, but was part of a bigger package of April 2 changes that **appears** to be *great* news regarding use of EY on awards!
Oddly the rule that I mention above was always there (well, for a year at least) in the documentation but wasn't being enforced for some reason-- as others clearly noticed.
