AA795 ORD-BOS in-air engine failure 14 Mar 2019

Anyone experience that yesterday? My colleague did. Half an hour in to the flight the right engine blew out (not the technical term). They had to return to ORD for an emergency landing with full emergency services on the ready.

Can't find anything about it anywhere.

I don't expect an event like that to be newsworthy to be honest.

In a few days it may show on The Aviation Herald
Or may not. Engine failures are not uncommon

Fair enough. Never had one in my millions of miles so sounds scarier than I guess it is.

Windy at ORD yesterday. A heavy crosswind landing on one engine must have been fun.

Didn't make the news here in Chicago, a place where any little occurance involving aircraft at ORD & MDW usually makes the "breaking news" headline!

I was on a Delta LAX to MSP 757 last summer that lost an engine near Rapid City. Pilot decided to continue on to MSP. After about 3 million BIS miles it was a first for me,but didn't even get a short mention on Aviation Herald .

Outside of a minute or two of some minor leveling issues (I was guessing related to fuel distribution), the reminder of the flight was normal. Upon landing there was a fire department welcoming committee, but the pilot ending up exiting the runway without assistance.

Felt bad for the people sitting at the MSP gate waiting for the plane's next flight. It was clear that the gate agent has no clue, and people expected their boarding would occur as normal (my incoming arrived 25 minutes behind schedule).

Years ago, we had a pmTW MD83 have to have an engine shut off about 45 minutes into STL-BOS. The FA came to us in F and told us in F first, because she stopped serving dinner and picked up all the service items. We then flew back uneventfully where the pmTW staff had mostly gone home and whoever was left had a terrible time rebooking us all on flights the next day.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Chicago about 46.5 hours after landing back.
