I’ll be on HKG-LAX in F next week, and curious if anybody has come across the “Foie Gras Stuffed Squab”. Seems like an awful lot could go wrong, so will probably play it safe with the Salt Pepper Lamp Chops, or maybe the Noodle Crusted Jumbo Shrimp. Figured I’d at least see if there’s any history out there. I saw it mentioned by somebody in last year’s thread, but don’t think there was any feedback.

All of those options sound disgusting IMO

Hi Everyone-

First time in AA international Business for LAX-EZE, nothing on the menu looks that enticing, Is there any chance of a chef's special while on-board? I guess I would have to go with the braised short-ribs.
  • Choose later Choose later selected for for LAX to EZE
  • Braised Short Ribs Braised Short Ribs selected for for LAX to EZE
brown basmati rice, kimchi pickled red cabbage, bulgogi sauce
  • Red Snapper Tagine Red Snapper Tagine selected for for LAX to EZE
celery and carrot couscous, sautéed vegetables
  • Buffalo Skillet Chicken Buffalo Skillet Chicken selected for for LAX to EZE
jalapeño cheddar corn cakes, Gorgonzola, golden beet and carrot slaw
  • Bulgur and Feta Stuffed Portobello Mushroom Bulgur and Feta Stuffed Portobello Mushroom selected for for LAX to EZE
roasted golden beets, crumbled fontina, arrabbiata sauce
Any suggestions from experience would be appreciated.

No chance of a chef of a chef's special, unless you assign one of those names to a catering error.

The short ribs are good and will approximate what you'd expect to receive on the ground, unlike AA's shoe-leather filet.

Plastic salt and pepper shakers now for Flagship Intl FC? That looks so cheap for this cabin.

On flight 193 last Wed (1/16/19) in F, there were glass salt and pepper shakers and the butter was in a ramekin.

I don’t disagree, some funky combinations. Oh well, will make sure to get a good meal at one of the CX lounges before boarding.

My theory posted above is that the issue is with HKG catering. See if you still have the glass and ramekin on AA 192.

Admittedly, this data is over two years old but on flight 192 on 9/13/16, there were glass salt and pepper shakers but the butter was indeed in its original metal container. I will be sure to check tonight on flight 192.

About that Slow Roasted Lamb Osso Bucco question in the very 1st post...............I had pre-ordered it for a AKL-LAX flight I was on this past Monday.
Appearance wise - awful (sorry no photo) but it was very tasty along with the grilled zucchini and roasted sweet potatoes.
I would order it again.

Hasn't changed in the last year but still good for a 6x yearly flyer. Interesting note the spiciest version I have ever received.

okra, spinach W/ paneer (indian cheese), samosa & rice

Are the pre-selection menus the same as the onboard menus?

Flying HKG-LAX and the only two decent options on the pre-order menu seem to be the Prawns and Scallops or Chicken.

If it’s the same as the menu onboard fine, but was hoping for maybe something different. If I pre-order and then want something different will they just give the pre-ordered meal to a nonrev?

And is 14J that bad? The thought of less foot traffic from just row 15 sounds nice.

Yes, in normal operations.

I don't know if there's standard procedure, but I could certainly imagine that the FA would only accommodate this request after all other meal orders have been taken and there's still your second choice available. Personally I don't think it's reasonable to stick a non-rev with something just because you change your mind.

Not to turn this into a nonrev thread, but aren’t they usually asked their choice after all paying pax? So if I changed my mind wouldn’t I still come before a nonrev?

Just flew on 192/3 over the weekend, F from LAX and J from HKG. But the outbound from LAX had glass salt and pepper shakers and butter in a ramekin, while the return from HKG had plastic S&P as well as container butter.

Thought I would do a mini trip report on AA 192 (HKG/LAX) on Jan. 23. The flight ran about seven minutes ahead of schedule both for departure and arrival. I was a happy flyer since I had seat 1A, my favorite. There were glass salt and pepper shakers but the butter was indeed in its original metal container.

In the butter's defense, it was very good.

Nadia, our purser for the flight saw me taking a picture of the butter so I explained about our strange obsessions on FlyerTalk. She indicated that catering out of Hong Kong did indeed provide the butter in its original container. She seemed concerned but I told her not to worry as we FT types were a bunch of divas which got a good laugh. For my entrée I had preselected the Foie Gras Stuffed Squab. It was just OK being a tad too gamey for my taste. The veggies and potatoes, on the other hand, were delightful. They were seasoned well and not overcooked. With eight hours of sleep, the trip back seemed to take no time at all.
