American outlines A321neo network in 2Q19

Posted 23 December 2018 13:50

American Airlines during the weekend of 23DEC18’s schedule update filed planned Airbus A321neo routes, under aircraft code 32Q. Planned A321neo service is scheduled for the second quarter of 2019, with configuration of F20 Y176.

LAX – MCO 02APR19 – 02MAY19 1 daily (AA2361/219)

PHX – ANC 06JUN19 – 19AUG19 1 daily (AA1413/1372)

PHX – LAX 02APR19 – 02MAY19 1 daily (AA820/1895)

PHX – MCO 02APR19 – 02MAY19 1 daily (AA682/1022; Except 21APR19)

(Hawaii requires AA possess, test and secure FAA approval for 32Q ETOPS rating, possibly a reason for these inaugural overland routes?)

Eventually the A321neo is to replace all Hawaii service A321H and 757 aircraft, and deploy on non-JFK-LAX or JFK-SFO routes.

AA Airbus A321neo, c/o ch aviation

JonNYC: MCE is row 8-11, 17 (overwing exit), 27 (exit row, 5 seats in row,) 18-21 (D,E,F)
There is an existing order of 100 A321neo, with the first delivery in February 2019. However, American Airlines has reached an agreement with Airbus Industries to defer twenty-two A321neo that were previously scheduled for delivery in 2019, 2020, and 2021 to at least 2024, citing high fuel prices and a weak revenue environment for the move.

AA will install Viasat Ka-band inflight connectivity on the entire A321neo fleet.

According to David Seymour, American’s Senior Vice President of Integrated Operations, when they take the A321neo starting in January “that will actually serve as the platform to get certification for our refurbishment and standardization of the 321s... so we can go common configuration.” That effort will start in February.
Currently, though both will be refitted to 190 seats under Project Oasis:

LAA “32B”: F16 (38” pitch), Y165 including 38 MCE (181 total seat count)

LUS A321: F16 (36” pitch), Y171 including 18 MCE (187 total seat count)

(Note: Delta A321 has 192 seats.)

The seats have been described in the previous retrofit / CIP thread as

F will match the LUS 321 36” pitch, MCE and Y likely will be reduced to 737 MAX standards.

That’s the advantage (intended) of not going to 29” pitch - FAA requires one FA : 50 passengers.

This is really going too far. I think customers are getting pushed to the limit with what they'll take. What is going to be the proverbial straw?

The LUS 321 has 16F. Not sure where you're getting this 12F from.

The a320s. I mixed them up - my bad.

Even then 16F --> 20F. Not the worst thing, IMO.

I'm one of those who is tired of the addition of extra rows, extra seat per row, and no IFE. I started this year giving Delta more and more of my business even with a change of plane in route and a little higher fare. I usually only purchase first class tickets; however, if their is a canceled flight along the way, I don't want to end up in Economy on another flight with 30" pitch.

American’s New Airbus A321neo Will Load Into Their Schedule Tonight – And Cram In 15 More Seats
by Gary Leff on December 15, 2018
Link
Including, in part:

At the end of September I revealed the details of just how American would be squeezing more seats into their Airbus A321 fleet just like they are doing with their Boeing 737s as well as adding more first class seats.
  • Legacy American A321s (not the cross country A321Ts) get 15 more seats in the same amount of space while legacy US Airways A321s get 9 more seats.
  • A321neo aircraft will have 196 total seats (remember: one flight attendant per 50 passengers, one more row would have cost them more money to crew the planes).
  • It’s 20 first class seats (5 rows, rather than the current 4), 47 Main Cabin Extra seats, and 129 regular coach seats.

The goal is that these planes will fly Phoenix and Los Angeles to Hawaii and Los Angeles to the East Coast. Hawaii flying with the aircraft is expected to start in September.

The very first flights, though, are planned for April 2 — domestic flights out of Phoenix and Los Angeles including the super long Phoenix – Anchorage flight for the summer schedule....

The first flights for the A321neo load into the schedule overnight and become bookable on Sunday, December 16th. Three and a half months out, though, and with a new aircraft type that the carrier hasn’t flown yet, these schedules shouldn’t be considered firm.

Between the various configurations of the 737-800 (one version with Y starting in row 7, one version with Y starting in row 8, 737M, and now densified Oasis 737s), and various configurations of the A321, I am really starting to love the A319. Can't believe I'd ever say that (with 8 F class seats and all). And, I am -really- loving the E175s.

Row 8 737s have been gone for 2 years now. But yes, the E175s are a godsend!

Sending those birds to MCO makes sense. Great a/c to squeeze the Disney crowd into Y and business travelers into 20F or at least MCE.

A321neo - which seat?

I am booked on the LAX-Orlando flight. When I purchased it was one of the A321(Sharklets) aircrafts, so I paid a bit extra for seat 11A (the window seat with the exit row with basically unlimited legroom). I've had this seat before and it was awesome!

Of course, got the notification that the flight had changed, and it is now on the A321neo aircrafts. I got switched to seat 28A. This is one of the rows where the row in front just has a middle/aisle, but in front of that is the lavatory. I am very unsure about this seat - I normally try to avoid the areas around the bathrooms - should I switch? I don't tend to sleep on planes, so I will likely just be watching some entertainment options. An added detail: I had paid ~$60 for the Main Cabin Extra seat. With the move, they refunded me the money, then gave me a preferred seat, $45, without charging. I called in to see if they would move me to a MCE seat, but then they would charge me full price ($85) - I can maybe try escalating it to a supervisor to get the charge waived, but don't want to bother if the seat they gave me is fine.

Any advice?

AA doesn't own any A321neo aircraft...sounds like maybe you got switched to a pre-merger US A321. I'm not familiar with the Y section on that plane but if its what I think it is since you mentioned watching movies do know that those planes have no power and only have streaming entertainment so make sure you board with a full battery.

This flight isn't until May, so I think it's one of the newer A321neo they are supposed to start using. Will that still be one without entertainment systems?

Ah makes sense now, and I do see that LAX-MCO is one of the routes they plan to use that plane on. Looking at the seat map, 28A looks like one of the best coach seats with no seat in front of it, also the LAV looks to be in front of row 27 so wouldn't worry much about that also any lav traffic will be more noticeable to those on the aisle and yes that plane will have power at every seat so you're good there as well and supposedly faster wifi as well with ViaSat.
