Cool deal indeed!! I've used the same tactics suggest with regards to finding "higher fare codes" a few times. It's been a savior when there's an issue due to WX and/or MX issues. Have been booked into same class of service next available or a "down graded confirmed" booking. Sometimes it pays to do a little bit more "advance shopping for fights" indeed.

There seems to be a discount business class fare of $874 too , so quite a premiun for 1x extra eqm if that is available - ih happy to pay $474 one way extra for the eqms, then great ; it does seem less of a cost for J than many routes

Easier said than done with AA. As a non-elite, I find that to get to an agent, you often need a secret handshake to navigate through all the voice prompts. And once you get there, the live-agent often starts fresh without knowing any of the info that was given.
