I'm not sure what the AA-specific rules are on this, but you might actually be able to get your old AAdvantage account back if you call soon enough. Otherwise, I don't see any reason there'd be a waiting period to open a new account.

This is “can’t make this up” funny. OP wastes more time than a simple phone call to reset their password posting here because they don’t want to call, then when they do call rather than being sensible and asking for a password reset thy have the account deleted, only to now want to create a new one. I just...wow

I can foresee the next thread from the OP being on the lines of “How can I get back my miles and status from the account I deleted and add them to my new account?”
Reminds me of the show IT Crowd.
I smell fraud here.

Final Verdict on AAdvantage
I've thought about it long and hard, and my answer is: NO! I will NOT be creating another AAdvantage account for myself. And whoever said "That'll be one less gate lice," two things. 1) I am not a gate louse. 2) I'll be flying American WITHOUT an AAdvantage account.
Sigh. Some people have nothing better to do than waste other peoples time.
