Reserve MCE as GLD on AA operated AY coded flight?

Looking at booking an AY coded flight on AA metal. Can GLD reserve MCE seats before checking for the 50% discount or at check in for free if the flight is ticketed as AY? If not, how can we get those seats and at what price?

There appears to be no restriction on how the flight is coded

Is it actually cheaper buying it as an AY codeshare versus booking the actual AA flight number on aa.com or some other channel?

Either way, if your AA# is in the record you should be able to get the 50% discount. If it was booked outside of AA (e.g. AY web site), you probably have to call to do it if you can't look up your PNR on aa.com.

Thanks.

One more question: if a non-elite traveling companion is taking the same outbound but different return flight (and hence must have a separate PNR) can that person benefit from the discounted or free MCE rate by linking the PNRs (since I am GLD) at least on the outbound where we will be traveling together?

Looking at NA-Europe this summer, I saw many AY ticketed routes were cheaper than AA ticketed. 50% EQM is a killer though.
